During the early 1970s i joined the adult education classes for Lacemaking, as I wanted to do something completely different from my trade which was a Pattern-maker and Dressmaker, apart from the other interests I had in knitting and general craft-work.

It was very difficult to obtain everything needed to make lace, particularly pillows which were generally home made out of straw, covered in fabric. The resulting pillow was heavy, lumpy, and not good at holding pins in. Having seeing some pre-formed pillows made of polystyrene, I decided to design a range more fit for purpose ,with input from fellow students.

By this time I had progressed with Lacemaking and became a teacher at various adult education centres and introducing people to my range of pillows which were steadily refined over a long period of time. I started to attend lace-days and big lace fairs. From that activity I sold pillows overseas to Japan and New Zealand, my furthest point to date.

It has given me great satisfaction to see wonderful lace being produced on my pillows and meeting so many talented people.
